Joe Millward is the Innovation Manager at TAFE New South Wales, the leading provider of vocational education and training in Australia. Each year, more than 500,000 students enroll into its nationally recognized courses and training.
Earlier in his career, Joe spent 5 yrs at Autodesk managing the Commercial & Education business for the Media & Entertainment division.
Joe went on to co-found a wearable technology company, and spent several years as a consultant focused on digital strategy.
Just prior to joining TAFE NSW, Joe worked at 3M driving the direction of augmented and virtual reality technology for the company.

In this conversation, recorded in late 2019, Joe describes the way his team at TAFE NSW is experimenting and innovating in higher education using spatial computing technologies.
He reviews a few of the specific experiences they are creating, and how they decide whether a particular content or curriculum makes sense in VR or AR.
He also discusses the impacts on learning outcomes – both what those impacts are and why they’re effective – as well as how they ensure students and teachers are successful with the technology.
This is a really wonderful overview of how spatial computing is beginning to impact education.
